The Broadside Staff
The Broadside has recently come aware of a pressing matter that could be detrimental to our environment and wildlife. The Oregon Department of State Lands (DSL) is considering selling 400 acres, in the Cline Buttes area, of public land to developers of Thornburgh Resort.
According to Central Oregon Landwatch, the resort’s proposed water usage is up to 6 million gallons per day. This warrants concern, as this will affect fish, wildlife and groundwater levels in the area.
The Broadside does not believe this sale should occur.
Public land should be managed for the. public good and this deal would harm Oregon’s people and wildlife.
The proposed development could add three golf courses to the rural landscape, as well as thousands of luxury homes, adding to the water consumption.
