President Shirley Metcalf announced March 30th that top candidate, Betsy Julian, “accepted our offer to become our new Vice President for Instruction.”beginning July 1, 2016.” It is still not official until the Board of Directors approves the decision, which is expected to happen, according to Ron Paradis, Executive Director of College Relations.
A “site visit” was conducted just after Julian visited the COCC campus. It involved President Metcalf and several of the interview committee members going to Portland Community College (where Julian currently is a Dean of Science and Technology) to find out more about Julian. Aimee Metcalf, Assistant Director of College Relations, said about the “site visit” that, “feedback regarding Dr. Julian was overwhelmingly positive.”
President Metcalf thanked the search committee for, “their outstanding job during the process.” The committee was composed these faculty and staff: Carol Higginbotham, committee chair – and professor of chemistry, Elaine Simay Barton, administrative assistant II – science department, Michael Fisher, instructional dean, Amy Howell, associate professor of education/program director-early childhood education, Charlie Naffziger, professor of mathematics, and Alicia Moore, dean of student and enrollment services. They have been a part of the process since it began back in November of 2015.
Though the process is drawing to a close, there is still much to learn about our soon-to-be VPI and her goals. President Metcalf included in her announcement, “Congratulations and welcome to the COCC Family Dr. Betsy Julian!”
