Central Oregon Community College’s LGBTQ and Ally Club organized a drag party on May 5. A drag party is about having fun and is very performance oriented, so a lip syncing competition and dancing for the audience was set up. Members of the club showed up including President Hannah Mckinney and Vice President Shayla Maffit. Mckinney organizes all of the clubs events and is in charge of holding club meetings. Maffit will take over if Mckinney is not able to show up to meetings or events.
“I think it’s important to be able to share LGBTQ issues that might be happening. A lot of people talk about their feelings while they’re in the club, so that’s really nice. It also let’s people get to know each other,” Maffit explained about the club and why it’s important to her.
As well as a lip syncing competition, club members played card games and drinks and food were provided. The club meets every Tuesday at 2:30, contact Chris Rubio for more information: [email protected]
