Dining hall opens at OSU-Cascades

OSU-Cascades’ campus continues to expand with the addition of a dining hall/academic building. It opened alongside OSU-Cascades’ residence hall, but serves both residential and non-residential students.

Classes were held in the new building during week one of winter term on the facility’s upper floor, which features multiple classrooms, a meditation space, and a creative studio.

The lower floor is home to what students and staff refer to as, “The Beaver Dam.” Here, the university offers a variety of food options on a rotating menu. Made-to-order stir-fry, pizza, burgers, grain bowls, ramen, and international dishes are served by OSU’s dining staff, and a self-serve salad bar is also available.

Snacks and to-go beverages can also be found at The Beaver Dam. Students and staff recognize many local options in both the Beaver Dam and the coffee bar, including Eberhard Dairy, Sparrow Bakery, Humm Kombucha, Lone Pine and Strictly Organic.

OSU-Cascades Dining Services also claims to use local, organic and sustainable products whenever possible.

Students are taking advantage of the new facility, and during the week, they can be found studying, sharing meals, and meeting with other classmates around the building.

Tim Simmons, American Studies major at OSU-Cascades, remembers attending classes at the university’s campus near COCC.

“Here, there is much more room to spread out and work,” said Simmons. He also expressed how this new addition to campus has been good for student life.

“Before, I just went home after classes, but here I can study and relax without having to go somewhere else,” he stated.

Simmons has also tried the food and the coffee bar, and said that he had a great experience with both.
