Stress Free Finals Return to COCC

Another term has quickly come to an end, and the amount of stress students are feeling is through the roof. Whether you are taking one class or five, the eleventh week of any term is the one you dread most. But have no fear, Central Oregon Community College has several ways to help students have “stress free finals.”

Stress Free Finals will consist of five days of stress relieving activities around campus this term.

Barber Library will be extending its hours over the weekend, and will provide free coffee and snacks to any students who may need a peaceful environment to study in. Friday, Dec. 2, the library will be open from 5 to 9 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday the library will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

On Monday, Dec. 5, Mazama Gym will be hosting a dodgeball tournament starting at 7 p.m. to take students’ minds off of studying. There will also be free pizza, refreshments, and prizes.

Tuesday, Dec. 6, in Coats Campus Center there will be free chair massages in the lobby to help stressed, or non-stressed, students relax. Upper body massages will be performed by the massage program alumni from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Pet-a-Pup therapy will also take place on Tuesday. Students will be given the opportunity to spend time with precious, nationally registered therapy dogs and their handlers. Pet-a-Pup is put on courtesy of Pet Partner Teams, Therapy Dogs International Teams, and Therapy Dogs Incorporated Teams. This event will be taking place in Barber Library.

Wednesday, Dec. 7 will be the last day of activities for stress free finals. Students who provide a current COCC student ID will be able to purchase a $1 lunch in the Coats Campus Center dining room from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tyler Hayes, coordinator of student engagement at COCC said that the goal of stress free finals is to take stress off of students and to help students get through any stress that may occur during finals week.

While there has not been an official study that correlates stress free finals and students’ success on finals, Hayes mentioned there has been an extremely positive response from students regarding the events that are put on each term by the Associated Students of COCC, Student Life, and Barber Library.

Be sure to take advantage of any of these events during this upcoming week.
