Central Oregon Community College’s first Student Art Sale will be running for three days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pence Gallery in the Pinckney Center for the Arts on the Bend campus, Nov. 29 through Dec. 1.
All currently enrolled art students are invited to enter their art pieces in the sale. The prices and titles are chosen by each student artist and they get to keep the proceeds from their sales with ten percent of the sale going to the department gallery fund. This is the first year COCC’s art department is holding this kind of event and many students have already committed their works to be a part of the sale.
“When work speaks to someone they tend to have a relationship with it and buy it,” said William Hoppe, a COCC associate professor of art.
COCC Student Randall Martin submitted his piece “Game Day” to the Student Art Sale. “Game Day” is an oil on canvas depicting horror movie characters sitting down for Thanksgiving. It is selling for $1900.
Martin said it was inspired by “having friends over and the holidays.” He also sold some of his works at last year’s student art show.
