Accountability, independence, transparency, and fairness
Our primary objective is creating oversight for the associated students of central Oregon community college. The proposed amendment will make ASCOCC ethically accountable for the student fee money they spend. The proposed amendment will create a student fee committee comprised of more students than student government members. An annual budget will need to be submitted by the student government. The higher ratio of students will provide and unbiased atmosphere. The proposal will make funding for clubs equal and more independent. The Broadside would like to gain financial independence. The Broadside is currently held financially accountable by the Broadsides student fairs committee comprised of:
- Student Life Director
- An OSU member
- ASCOCC member
- Student Appointee
- OSU Student Life
- Faculty Member
- Fine Arts Communications, Jon Bouknight
- A Classified Person
- A professional Journalist, Jan Jordan
CURRENTLY, ASCOCC DECIDES ITS OWN BUDGET WITH NO OVERSIGHT
A fee committee will provide:
- Oversight for ASCOCC by requiring them to submit an annual budget
- Independence for student clubs and programs so as not to be dependent on the whims of ASCOCC
- Independence for the Broadside which is necessary for a free and independent press. Such independence is prevalent in college newspapers throughout the country
