This term, nearly 70 Oregon State University – Cascades students lived in Juniper Hall on the Central Oregon Community College campus, anticipating the opening of the residence hall at Oregon State University-Cascade’s campus.
This 113,000 square-foot residence hall and dining/academic is scheduled for completion and is due to open for move-in on Jan. 7, 2017. The 70 students living in Juniper Hall will have their belongings packed by professional movers, then have them moved across the way to the new residence hall. Upon applying for housing this term, students were aware of the current living situations, and they were given discounted room and board for fall term.
OSU-Cascades residence hall will house about 300 students. All incoming freshman during the winter and fall term will be required to live on campus. The housing space contains single, double, triple, and quads. The most common room and dining package cost is $10,845 per year and consists of a double with a shared bath and the second least expensive dining plan offered.
This price in comparison to COCC’s residence hall’s preferred package is $270 more per term.
Christine Coffin, director of communications and outreach at OSU-Cascades, stated that although the number of students who will be living in the halls come winter term is not very high, they will still be expecting higher interest, and more residents by fall of 2017.
Many community members have been concerned about the lack of parking availabilities at OSU-Cascades, but there are several different options for students who live on campus to leave their cars throughout the week. Students are able to park their cars at the old Bachelor Park and Ride parking lot, and receive bus passes at a discount.
As OSU-Cascades continues to expand in the community, housing coordinators hope to accommodate the maximum amount of student possible in the residence hall.
“As we continue to grow we will constantly be needing more residence hall space,” said Coffin. “Though it has not been decided where and how, there are still hopes to do so.”
