OSU-Cascades student council for 2014-15

The current student government at OSU-Cascades will be training and preparing these students for their time next year as the Associated Students of Cascades Campus. Below are four of the six hired council members. Damaris Monroy, secretary/treasurer and Jessie James, program director, were not available for comment.

Jack Vanderlinden

ASCC President

My job is to facilitate the success of the ASCC members in their goals and objectives for the year. I will also be responsible for communicating the wants and needs of the students to the school administration and our public representatives. In doing so, I will be representing the students of OSU-Cascades.

1) Why did you want to be on ASCC?

I wanted to be in ASCC to continue strengthening the OSU-Cascades Student Organizations. As we transition to a four-year campus, our student population will be growing and becoming more active every year. I would like to make sure the structure is in place for them all to succeed and enrich the college experience at OSU-Cascades.

2) What other experience do you have that you feel you can bring to this position?

In the past, I have been the ASB President of North Idaho College for two years, played a leadership role on sports teams growing up, and studied leadership at multiple educational institutions.

3) What are your goals for the next year (as far as ASCC)?

My goals for next year is to look back on a fun and engaging year at OSU-Cascades where students have accomplished their goals and objectives in activities, student organizations, access to education, and professional development. I would also like to achieve more structure and collaboration between student organizations.

4) What is your major and what are your future goals?

I am a business major. My future goals are to work as a professional in the sports and apparel industry. Any company like Nike, REI, Adidas, or even my own would be an honor to work for.

Rosie Laurie

ASCC Vice President

My job is to connect our campus with Corvallis and sit as head chair in the newly formulated Inter-Club committee. I will also help plan the alumni celebration at the end of the year and assist in leading the team.

1) Why did you want to be on ASCC?

I have always had an interest in leadership, specifically governing leadership. I am a strong believer in creating change through involvement. From the moment I started at OSU-Cascades I wanted to be involved in and around campus. I feel everything we are doing in these epic years before the new campus opens will be going down in history.

2). What other experience do you have that you feel you can bring to this position?

As I am currently acting VP I feel I have a certain comfort in the position and expectations of me

3). What are your goals for the next year (as far as ASCC)?

We of course hope to move into a more legislative power. We hope to take the information the current ASCC gathered about what students want from the new campus and be sure to advocate to administration for them.

4). What is your major and what are your future goals?

I am an American Studies Major with a Political Science Minor, I have aspirations to go to law school and eventually would love to get into politics and or community planning I hope to advance the identity of OSU-Cascades. We are Bend Beavers and that needs to mean something. I want more than anything to inspire my daughter to make a difference to contribute to society.

Kyle Schenk

ASCC Activities Coordinator

My job is to plan and coordinate campus events.

1) Why did you want to be on ASCC?

I want to be on ASCC so I can represent the student body, work with my peers and be an advocate for student needs.

2) What other experience do you have that you feel you can bring to this position?

I have assisted in planning several other successful events around the community, including Hops and Holidays and the First Annual Bend Fly Fishing Festival.

3) What are your goals for the next year (as far as ASCC)?

I plan on creating and planning new events that benefit Oregon State University in the Bend community. I also plan on building a strong relationship with the ASCOCC Event Coordinator to host events in partnership with Central Oregon Community College.

4) What is your major and what are your future goals?

Tourism and Outdoor Leadership degree in Eco and Adventure Tourism and Business Minor. In the long run, I would like to open a fly fishing and yoga retreat for disabled veterans and their spouses.

Kira Ashley

ASCC Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator

My job is to advertise the ASCC brand, run the toilet news, social media, posters, and whatever else is required.

1) Why did you want to be on ASCC?

I joined ASCC to form connections in our school and community as well as to get more involved.

2) What other experience do you have that you feel you can bring to this position?

I have experience with working with other volunteer programs and associations and have the go get them attitude our ascc needs.

3) What are your goals for the next year as far (as far as ASCC)?

My goals are to create new twitter, instagram, and tumblr accounts for ASCC and raise students and community involvement and add more events for them to be involved in.

4) What is your major and what are your future goals?

My major is liberal arts bachelor. My future career goals is to be an educator in the elementary school field as well as to continue to sell my art independently online and in gallery shows.
