Fall in Central Oregon brings cold mornings, sunny afternoons, and shorter days. Staying home and getting crafty in the kitchen can be the perfect way to enjoy the changing season. Below are some simple recipes, best paired with a cozy sweater and a view of the golden and crimson colors of autumn.
Warm up with a seasonal beverage
No time for a DIY latte? With a Starbucks on every corner, you should be covered in the PSL department. Lauren Kinney, COCC student and local Starbucks barista, recommends ordering your Pumpkin Spice Latte half-sweet, with cinnamon and nutmeg steamed into the milk.
If you prefer to support local businesses, or coffee isn’t your cup of tea, Townshend’s Bend Teahouse is another option for a warm drink. A teapot of pumpkin spiced chai for just $7 is the perfect drink to share with friends on a chilly day. For a cold option, Townshend’s Brew Dr. Kombucha in the spiced apple flavor is also an ideal fall beverage.
Walk it off
Fall activities are not hard to come by in Central Oregon. A walk through Drake Park to see the changing colors of the trees is one way to enjoy the season. Just a short drive north will lead you to Smith Rock Ranch, a Central Oregon favorite for pumpkin picking. Along with a pumpkin patch, Smith Rock Ranch is complete with an elaborate corn maze, petting zoo, mini golf, and more. Admission is free and tokens for activities are sold on-site. ■
