As the polls come to a close and numbers go up for presidential candidates, Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, what are the Central Oregon Community College students’ opinions on this year’s election? What candidate will they vote for and why?
The Associated Students of COCC are providing help for students who are interested in voting in this year’s election. Though registration to vote in this election closed on Oct.15, registration remains open for future elections. But do not feel discouraged, ASCOCC are willing to help with any questions regarding the process to vote and will help with resources along the way.
Talia Stockwell, a director of campus affairs at ASCOCC, is seeking a degree in sociology at the Bend campus. Stockwell is likely to cast her vote for Harris.
“It’s better than the alternative, is what I want to go with,”said Stockwell. She doesn’t back up everything Harris has done and stands for, but Stockwell believes it’s the better option out of the two candidates.
Kaleb Handy is a student at COCC and though is not of legal-age to vote believes there are some fit and unfit things from both Harris and Trump. Handy thinks a better representative of either party is the best decision.
“I can’t really say I prefer one over the other, I can however say that I prefer someone be over the both of them” said Handy, “If I did have the ability [to vote] I am unsure whether or not I would”.
Shelby Smith, an active student seeking a degree in criminal justice, speaks upon her views and opinions on this year’s election. Smith is voting for Harris in this year’s presidential election.
“I think Kamala appeals to the youth, and Kamala is a woman,” said Smith.
Smith thinks it will be a big step forward for the country with the possibility of a female president. Along with Harris being an active supporter for women. However, Trump will not be getting support from Smith.
“Donald Trump is only for himself, I think,” she said.
This is the major reason why Harris will be getting a vote from Smith this presidential election.
Student Kaikane Osuna has similar views, “I would say I’m in the neutral party…I guess my stance is that I don’t really have a side to be fair”. Osuna is still unsure if they will participate in this election.
This was just a small portion of the many different views and opinions here at COCC. Share your opinions in the poll!
