Central Oregon Community College is offering an Instagram and TikTok student ambassador position. The job entails working with the recruitment and outreach, and marketing and public relations teams to create and implement original social media content on COCC’s Instagram and TikTok accounts. This would entail posting regular videos, photos, stories and reels to the accounts.
What led COCC to offer a job of such importance to a student? Kayleen Schweitzer, Assistant Director of Recruitment and Outreach, explained that having a student voice on their Instagram and TikTok accounts sends a powerful and more relatable message to other COCC students.
“Come work in a fun environment while creating content for COCC, being the students’ voice, and connecting with the community,” she said.
According to Schweitzer, staff are looking for someone who is engaged in campus activities and can represent COCC and what it has to offer. Even if a student is unfamiliar with how to use TikTok or Instagram, Schweitzer and her team are willing to help train the student. Not only does this job offer experience working in social media, but also experience in event planning, design and teamwork.
“It’s a really fun position with a lot of independence and freedom to be creative,” said Schweitzer.
This is a part-time position with an hourly wage of 18 dollars an hour, and there is no consistent work schedule or required hours per week. This position is for students looking for experience in the marketing and PR field or interested in being more involved with COCC. Developing creative, engaging content to increase followership of COCC’s Instagram and TikTok pages is the goal for students interested in the job.
Students must be enrolled at COCC, be able to represent COCC positively, create original content and have the ability to apply this knowledge in a professional environment. Creating content for COCC’s social media pages may require students to attend recruitment, outreach and special events on or off campus.
“You never know what a job like this could lead to; not only is this job available but other opportunities in admissions as well,” said Schweitzer.
The job is a way for students to put themselves out there and create original content. Students can also develop long-lasting relationships with the staff and other students.
