The Broadside
Two members of The Broadside staff placed in the top categories of the Society of Professional Journalist’s national Mark of Excellence awards. Winners and finalists were initially recognized by receiving first place in regional competitions.
Derek Oldham was a first place national award winner for Sports Photography and Tobey Veenstra was a national finalist for his editorial cartoon. Oldham, a Central Oregon Community College student, is The Broadside’s photo editor and started with the paper in 2010. Veenstra, an Oregon State University-Cascades student, is the newspaper’s managing editor. He started working at the Broadside as a reporter in 2010.
