The holiday season is sneaking up fast on many individuals this year. But quality time with family and friends might look very different, depending on what everyone is comfortable with. Whether you need to gather some gifts or find a great spot to see the people you love, Modern Games has you covered.
Modern Games is a “board game shop at its core, but we offer so much more,” said Angelika Barrus, Manager of Modern Games. “On the retail side, we have a large selection of board games, puzzles, and other niche games like Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: the Gathering. “
But that is not all. Barrus also said that the “other side of the shop is home to our board game cafe, where customers can play anything from our collection of 275+ games. On our cafe side, we have beer and cider on tap, as well as a selection of hot and cold drinks to enjoy while playing.”
“Due to COVID-19, our cafe looks a bit different, but is still available for open play – $6 per person, 2 hours per visit, four people per group maximum,” said Barrus. This makes Modern Games a great destination to meet up with family or friends during the holiday season. Especially since the shop is “cleaning constantly, quarantining and sanitizing all games played from the library, as well as enforcing social distancing and masks while in the shop.”
The shop is committed to being your ‘friendly local game store’ and the place anyone can go to when exploring the magical world of gaming. “From new players to veteran gamers, we are committed to sharing our excitement and knowledge with the community,” said Barrus. “If you’re new to board games (or D&D, or Magic, or anything tabletop related), we’ll help you navigate and share our knowledge to find the best fit. If you’ve already got a collection of favorites at home, we can help you discover something new based on what you already love.”
Barrus’ loves the shop and said that her favorite thing about her job is “finding the perfect game for each person and sharing the joy that tabletop gaming can bring.” She continued and said that “Even if you don’t buy your game from us, we are always happy to share our knowledge and
insight, hear about new games, or help track down hard-to-find gems. Getting quality time with family and friends over games is something people are rediscovering, and with so many game choices, there’s always something to try.”
“There’s something for everyone, and that’s what we hope to embody for our community – that everyone is welcome and we’re here to make it as easy as possible to join the fun – because, at the end of the day, games are about fun,” said Barrus. “We are so happy to support and be supported by our Bend community for the last five years, and we hope you’ll find us next time you need to run a D&D campaign, grab a particular paint for your Space Marine army, or want to check out the newest Magic: the Gathering set release.”
