As COVID-19 has brought schools to a close, many students of Central Oregon Community College may be looking ahead and wondering what the college has planned for summer term. With financial aid, scholarships, and whether or not classes will stay online, there are many questions for summer term at COCC.
According to COCC’s Alert system, summer term of 2020 will be delayed one week. The start to summer term is now June 29. The Broadside recommends students to stay up to date with COCC alerts via email and to keep an eye on the COCC website for updating information.
According to the COCC website, “Types of aid available: Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Direct Loans, Federal Work-Study, PLUS Loan and Private Loans are available for summer. Summer term is the beginning of the 2020-21 award year. If you have not completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®), you should complete the application online: www.fafsa.gov.”
The only known scholarship that isn’t typically available summer term but will be for summer term 2020 is the COCC Foundations Scholarship. There is yet to be word on how the COCC Foundations Scholarship will work and how students will apply, but it has been confirmed the funds will extend into 2020 summer term.
According to Breana Sylwester from the COCC financial office, Oregon Promise has allowed leniency on scholarship renewals this 2020 spring term and 2020 fall term. Oregon Promise will not be supplying Oregon students with extended aid this summer term due to the lack of funds within the Oregon Promise budget.
Sylwester also mentioned that COCC students do not need to be concerned about searching the COCC website for updates about summer term–COCC will be communicating to students clearly about any summer term updates via email.
