Don’t shop without a list
Do check online first.
Don’t assume everything in the ad is a good deal.
Do use the buddy system.
Don’t sign up for department store credit cards.
Do wear comfortable shoes and layers.
Don’t wait, many deals begin on Thanksgiving day.
Do bring food and entertainment.
Don’t buy stuff you don’t need just because it’s marked down.
Do stock up on necessities like socks.
Don’t forget to set your alarm.
Do be courteous to others. Remember, Santa’s watching.

Cyber Monday
If the thought of waking up before dawn and braving store lines on Black Friday frightens you, then perhaps Cyber Monday is more your style.
The Monday following Black Friday is known as Cyber Monday because it is when many online retailers mark down prices.
Things to keep in mind when online shopping:
- Shipping and Handling – Watch out for expensive shipping charges and ensure the delivery date will be in time for the holidays.
- Don’t wait until Monday – Some online retailers post deals all week so don’t wait until Monday to check for deals.
- Shop from secured sites – Look for “Https” in the browser url to ensure you are on a secure site.
- Pay with a Prepaid Credit Card – If online shopping has you concerned about identity theft, use a prepaid credit card that is not tied to your personal checking account.
- Free Wifi is open to hackers – Beware entering your personal information when you are on free (public) wifi.
- Search for coupon codes – Coupon codes are available through Coupons.com and RetailMeNot.com. Make a habit of searching for coupon codes on all your online purchases. The code may only save you a few dollars on shipping, but every penny counts.
