The 2012 Bend Winterfest wrapped up another successful weekend of Rail Jams, Polar Plunges, ice sculptures, live music, homages to “The Big Lebowski” and down and dirty racing. More than 50 snowboarders and skiers from around the country competed in this year’s Rail Jam.
The Snow Warriors tested racer’s mettle with crazy obstacles and five kilometers of snow, mud and ice. Sponsored by Oregon State University-Cascades, the race handed out prizes for top male and female finishers and also best costume. Some would say this race was best run in a Viking helmet, a Visigoth costume or a pink feather boa with a European bikini. Whatever the strategy, when the race was over and done, some felt so good that they rolled around in an icy mud puddle.
