Oregon Governor Kate Brown announced on April 8 that she is extending the physical closures of the K-12 and post-secondary education systems for the reminder of the 2019-2020 school year.

The decision was made in response to the spreading of COVID-19 in Oregon, and is aimed at keeping students healthy and safe from the virus.

“We have Oregon’s students at the forefront of every decision we make about education,” said Governor Brown in the press release. “Their health, happiness, and safety is our priority. The best thing we can do for the health of our children, and for the thousands of educators across the state, is to give everyone certainty by announcing the decision today to close in-person classes for the remainder of the school year. School, and learning, will continue as best as we can using remote means.”

Curiously, Central Oregon Community College has not updated its students about this new development. There has been no email or contact of any kind from the school to the students about whether or not the school will be abiding by Governor Brown’s order, despite Central Oregon Community College saying from their website that the whole Spring term will be all done online and despite the fact that they sent email to all of its staff saying that they will abide by the order.

In the meantime, students should listen to the Governor’s directive and not come on campus.
