As locals walked along the river trail Saturday morning, the view of hundreds of people jumping into the freezing Deschutes was hard to miss.
The Bend Polar Plunge is one of many plunges that take place across the country. Friends, families, students and community members took a leap of faith into the 37 degree water, while raising funds for Oregon Special Olympics. Participants have a minimum donation of $50, but they also can ask for pledges to raise money for their team or individually.
This is the sixth annual polar plunge in Bend and each year it has been slowly growing larger and larger. This year they estimated that 300 people showed up in support for friends and family.
