Disney is set to lose a lot of money ($200 million) with the movie “John Carter,” which was released in theatres a few weeks ago. And although the reviews say it is a bad movie, people may be missing out on watching it. It’s actually good.
“John Carter” is a science fiction film that is set on both Earth and Mars. The action takes place on Mars, or as the alien race calls it, Barsoom. The movie is based on a book called “A Princess of Mars” by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
A former Civil War soldier, John Carter (Taylor Kitsch)—a conflicted and soulful character—is transported to Barsoom. Carter is faced with the decision whether to help in a war between different civilizations. The population consists of sun tanned human-like residents and green aliens that have four arms.
The film is directed by Andrew Stanton, who also directed “Finding Nemo” and “WALL-E.” The cast, plot and pace are all good. There’s some violence, good costumes, action and humor as well.
Don’t be fooled by the critics, the reviews and the negativity about how “John Carter” is a bad movie. People are being misled by the reviews they read and need to see the film for themselves. Even though the The New York times calls it “messy and chaotic,” they also say it is “colorful and kind of fun.” If you are expected to be bored then you will be surprised. The movie is entertaining, funny and has a romantic twist. It’s enjoyable from start to finish.
