Submission Guidelines
The Broadside welcomes submissions from guest contributors, community members and students who want to share their stories or opinions to The Broadside publication. Please read and adhere to the guidelines below:
TO SUBMIT AN ARTICLE, EMAIL [email protected], SUBMISSIONS WILL BE REVIEWED AND AUTHOR CONTACTED AS SOON AS WE READ THE STORY AND DETERMINE FIT.
General guidelines:
- Your article submission should be relevant to COCC (unless otherwise agreed upon) students, faculty, and the local community. Topics may include campus life, academic tips, student achievements, local events, opinions and broader issues that impact students and the community.
- Submissions must be original work, not previously published in any other publication or website.
- Articles should range between 300–1,000 words. Shorter submissions, such as opinion pieces or event previews, may be accepted if concise and impactful.
- No hate or discriminatory comments about anybody.
- Tone and style of writing should be formal and follow AP Style guidelines. Use a clear, conversational tone appropriate for a student publication.
- Avoid jargon and overly technical language unless relevant to the topic.
- No ads will be accepted but ads can be bought for online and our winter and spring publications click here
- publications will be decided by the students who take the class
Submission process:
Pitch article to the editor in chief, please explain in 100 words or less what the article is written about. After we review the article, we will contact the author with our decision to publish or not to publish. If accepted, the editor in chief or a Broadside editor will review and edit the story to help fit AP Style and be consistent with what The Broadside publishes.
