On Jan. 27, Rev. Nontombi Naomi Tutu paid a visit to Central Oregon Community College’s Wille Hall. Students from COCC and Cascades Academy attended the hour long conversation with the Reverend. Throughout the conversation, students had the chance to ask one on one questions and hear Tutu’s response and thoughts on the questions that were asked. Students also got an informational and insightful look into and about Tutu’s life and the experiences she has had.
Tutu was born in South Africa and is the daughter of the well known South African Anglican archbishop, Desmond Tutu. Throughout her life she has been recognized as a motivational speaker, author, an activist for human rights, and an Episcopal priest. Growing up, Tutu saw the realities and impacts of racial segregation and injustice and learned the importance of equality and peace. Through these experiences, she has been able to provide meaningful lectures and share her perspective on what it was like for her.
