Did you miss out on those activity classes you were hoping to get into? Not enough free time between work and school to get involved with the Intramural or Club Sports program? Welcome to The Sidelines – where you can find athletic, exercise and sports classes off campus.

Golf Classes At River’s Edge –
River’s Edge is offering beginning and short game golf classes for those who would like to learn the fundamentals of golf from a PGA professional. You are welcome to bring your own clubs, but if you don’t, clubs are available. The classes are open to all skill levels. The beginner’s golf class goes from 3:00 to 4:30 PM on Tuesdays, and costs $79, and the short game class goes from goes from 3:00 to 4:30 on Fridays, from Sept. 16 to Oct. 7 and costs $65.

Skate Ski Class at Mt. Bachelor’s –
Mt. Bachelor offers a beginning level class that will introduce you to the world of skate skiing. Skate skiing combines ice skating and cross country skiing techniques using unique narrow skis that allow for both skills to be performed effectively. Bachelor’s skilled instructors teach this class on groomed Nordic skiing trails–so those who are involved in COCC’s Nordic skiing team should find the terrain very easy to acclimate to. This class runs from November 27th to December 18th, 8:30 to 10 pm on Sundays, and students must provide their own equipment as well as sign a liability form. Cost is $109, with an $89 cost for Nordic Trail season pass holders.

Spey Casting Beginner’s Class
Spey rods are two handed fly rods that have become popular on the Deschutes river to fish for Steelhead trout with. In this October 15th class taught by Vail Borne, students will get hands on experience learning the different casts, terminology and equipment, and practicing the techniques that they learn will be the focus of the class. This class takes place at Farewell Bend Park, 9:30 to noon on Saturday and costs $79. Students will need to bring or rent their own waders or boots, spey rods are provided though students are encouraged to bring their own rods if they have them. Students will also need to sign a liability form.
