‘The Wall that Heals’ visits LaPine

Tristan Hackbart/The Broadside

“The Wall that Heals” Vietnam Veteran Memorial, recently visited LaPine Oregon, giving locals an opportunity to experience a sense of closure over the loss of friends and loved ones. The atmosphere around the memorial was somber, and one of remembrance. The Vietnam War officially spanned from November 1, 1955, to April 30, 1975, and over that period of time, 58,220 American lives were lost. The number continues to grow, as veterans of the war plagued by ailments such as exposure to Napalm and other wartime injuries, continue to pass. “The Wall that Heals” stands as a memorial to the lives that were lost.

“It’s emotional to see their names”, volunteer Bill Carr, an Army veteran himself said, “It’s a form of closure. The Wall brings together the ones that made it and those that didn’t. I volunteer for them”.
