Stuff to think about for summer

Extra! Extra! Read all about it:

Big names come to Bend all summer long. Once the weather in our fair city finally gets dialed in on summer, Bend becomes one of the best places to live and everyone heads outdoors.

If the biking, hiking, rafting, camping, grilling and so on start wearing thin for you, don’t you fret none.

There are so many concerts coming to town over the next few months you’ll have a chance to head indoors for a break or maybe even just add music to your outdoor experience.

With that in mind here are some highlights so you can start strategically planning how you are going to fit it all in.

Now I know you’re thinking summer is still a few weeks away, at least according to the syllabus, but surviving the first half of this term deserves a peek at all the sun and fun ahead!

Les Schwab Ampitheatre is getting the summer kicked off and allowing you to stay outdoors with a handful of big names coming to town throughout summer.

First up, Death Cab for Cutie is coming to town Friday May 27. Washington’s own native sons come to town to fill your ears with new sounds and the songs you’ve come to love over the last 10+ years. Death Cab for Cutie has a new CD set to be released just in time for their arrival in Bend entitled “Codes and Keys.”

Don’t be surprised if you hear about this album and CD again; did someone say giveaway?

Also coming to Les Schwab are our friends The Decemberists who had a new project earlier this year that The Broadside reviewed last term.

As promised they are back stateside and heading our way Sunday May 29. With six albums in their arsenal this should be another solid show for the outdoor venue.

As Summer gets into full gear you will also be able to catch Ween, Allison Krauss and Dierks Bentley. The Ampitheatre is also hosting several free events like Pole Pedal Paddle, The Chapmans, Blaine Larsen and MOsley WOtta.

The Domino Room is always consistent about keeping us busy no matter what the season, and summertime is no different.

Last week we traveled back in time to visit the ‘80s and the Domino Room followed suit on April 30 with an ‘80s Video Dance Attack. Don’t worry, they will have their DeLorean ready to take you back for another one in June , but not before Tech Nine hits the stage on June 23, tickets will be on sale soon.

The Devil Makes Three on May 8 and the Heiroglyphics on May 13 help get summer started early.

Summer is so short that it’s easy to get overwhelmed, but don’t let the above tidbits overwhelm you; they are just highlights.

Keep in mind you still have to leave room for The Madhappy Lounge because they are always up to no good when it comes to great music and atmosphere. McMenamins is just a great place to get away for movies, food and so much more. The Summit likes to sneak in shows periodically along with their menu of goodies and I would be remiss if I didn’t remind you ladies about the all-male revue coming up at Boondocks.
