Place a bet and help the needy

On Nov. 20, South Central Oregon Outreach Toy Run Incorporated—in conjunction with Savvy Casino Events—will be holding a Casino Night and Dinner to benefit needy children and families in the La Pine area, also known as South Deschutes county.

The Associated Students of Cascades Campus will be on hand as a part of its effort to get out and volunteer in the community.

“What ASCC will be doing at Casino Night is helping to run the silent auction and with the food line. We are very excited to get to help out in the community,” said ASCC President Jessica Corrales.

SCOOTR Inc. has been operating since 1998 as a motorcycle rider oriented non-profit, helping the indigent of South Deschutes County. They have several very successful events every year, including a three-day bike rally and camp out called Summer Eruption that draws bikers from all over the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

Proceeds from all these events fund many different projects and needs in their community.

In 2009, SCOOTR donated over $10,000 to various youth groups in La Pine and other local non profits as well as Dr. Graham Balzer, to provide children with much needed eye exams and glasses.

Last year the organization spent over $20,000 dollars through the holiday season, providing families with clothes, toys, and food. They also work hand in hand with the La Pine Christmas Basket Association.

This will be SCOOTR’s 12th annual Casino Night. There will be craps, roulette, and blackjack. Chips earned at the tables can be used to purchase raffle tickets for one of the many raffles they will have throughout the night.

There will also be a silent auction, live music, pictures with Santa, and beer and wine available for purchase. The casino and dinner is open to anyone 18 and up.

And ASCC will be there to help.

“Community outreach is something [ASCC] wanted to strive for this year and we are glad to have this opportunity,” said Corrales
