Majority of students recommend ASCOCC constitution
A majority of students recommended that Central Oregon Community College’s Board of Directors approve the student government’s constitution, last week via a vote on Blackboard.

The Associated Students of COCC (ASCOCC) “is very pleased with the result of the recommended ‘Yes’ vote by the student body
and would like to thank those students that voted,” according to an ASCOCC press release.

The new constitution includes significant changes to the student government, including the establishment of an advisory board
and a student budget committee. Although the results were satisfying, the low amount of students who actually voted did let ASCOCC members down.

“We are disappointed with the turn out and wish that the Office of Student Life had invested more into their marketing efforts and
had included ASCOCC in their campaign so there would have been better student awareness and participation,” wrote ASCOCC in
the press release.

The vote was an advisory vote, which will serve as a recommendation to the Board of Directors for their approval, according to email by Student Life Director Gordon Price sent to students.

OSU women’s volleyball coach presents next Science Pub lecture

Oregon State University-Cascades and the main Corvallis campus will present a Science Pub, a monthly lecture where topics in science are presented and discussed at McMenamins bar, on Monday, April 18.

The topic that will be covered is “Sports in Our Society – Does it Build Character or Characters?” and will be presented by Terry Liskevych, the head coach of OSU women’s volleyball.

“Liskevych will look at sports worldwide, from youth sport to Olympic and professional levels, and suggest a collegiate model that
would change the present system,” according to the OSU-Cascades website.

The Science Pub lasts from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. It is free, but Mc-Menamins requires reservationsfor the lecture by 5 p.m., Sunday
