Four bands joined forces on April 17 for Record Store Day, playing a mostly acoustic set. This day was founded in 2007 and continues to bring independently owned record stores together for the celebration of music. People of all ages lined up against the garden dividers just outside of Ranch Records to see the free show.

Record Store Day was kicked off by David Mills, 19, who has worked the music scene in central Oregon for years, but is now on his own in his band Adventure Galley. He has been in other bands such as The Brutes and Space Hoax throughout his 13 years of playing the guitar.

Mills was asked last minute to open for the show, but was eager for the chance to play. Mills music was a mixture of punk rock and acoustic, he stood alone with just his guitar and his strong voice

“I have opened for Larry and His Flask before but I am excited,” he said.

Although the next musician in the lineup has only been playing the guitar actively for one year, Robert Dalton, 22, played a smooth set of songs that flowed with one another. Dalton’s set was the shortest, but as he began to play little kids danced about and older folks wheeled closer to enjoy the music. Dalton also stood alone as he sang a lighter set of songs with his soft melodic voice.

“I felt fantastic; I jumped at the opportunity to play this show!” explained Dalton enthusiastically while he set up his microphone.

The Yenn Family Acoustic Project was thrilled to play with Larry and His Flask. Lead singer Christina Lyn, 22, has been singing for seven years, and was, “…super stoked! It’s going to be fun; I cannot wait to play with Larry and His Flask.”

Yenn had an eclectic feel to the sound of their music with two drums, one violin, and one tambourine as Lyn sang. After Yenn had played a couple of their songs, little children danced in front of the band.

“Bend is always amazing to play and it’s our hometown, people are always jumping around and bleeding everywhere,” said Ian Cook, 23, who sings and plays lead guitar in Larry and His Flask.

The band originated in Bend and has played in the area over 100 times. They have recently returned to Oregon after being on a tour with the Dropkick Murphys and the locals that are part of the punk scene are more than happy to have them back in the area.
