With the beginning of 2021, and another term held largely remote and online; it can be challenging to remember how to continue to stay involved with Central Oregon Community College and the community.

Luckily, there are plenty of extracurricular opportunities, events and other free activities to participate currently and in the upcoming months that have been created or altered to fit the conditions of the ongoing pandemic.

During a time of winter and quarantine, it can be especially difficult to stay active. COCC still aims to offer many sports options, all in-person events requiring masks and social distancing. Sports and active events range from pickleball, basketball, golf and aerial yoga.

Many of these events are free to register and take place indoors as to pertain to the weather of the current season. While state guidelines on gatherings have temporarily restricted many of these events as of late December, organizers are eager to offer more sports options as soon as possible. You can register and view sports activities in more detail here.

There is even an e-sports club for those who want to experience the competitive rush of sports with other COCC students, but do not wish to leave the comfort of their own home. This club provides the opportunities to select the video games one may wish to compete in.

If one is not a fan of competition yet wants to keep up their involvement in the COCC community, there are a multitude of volunteering opportunities, multicultural events and other clubs to get involved in all while staying safe.

To join the student voice to benefit the campus, there are many committees including the College Affairs Committee, Diversity Committee and the Student Fee Committee. Students can volunteer their time to discuss and act upon issues and other topics that matters to them. There are also many more volunteer options on campus and locally that can be viewed here.

For members of the Latinx and LGBTQ+ community, there are currently many clubs and events to participate in to learn about and support these groups as well as other areas of interest.

While there are virtual events such as Addressing Racial Inequalities and Responding to Hate Speech, there are also clubs for topics ranging from art and dance to nursing and Asian cultures. No matter the area of interest, there is bound to be a student club or organization for anyone.

All of these activities and clubs and further information on each of them, as well as links to register can be found at this page on COCC’s website.
