The Foo is back after almost four years with their latest studio project “Wasting Light.” Dave, Chris, Taylor, Nate and Pat come together to
remind everyone what alternative rock is all about.
The fellas appeared on Saturday Night Live, April 9 to give all the fans a long awaited taste of what’s to come on this new album.
I got hold of an advance copy and as a long time Foo fan I must say I couldn’t wait to rip this one open and see if the magic was still there.
Pat Smear rejoined the band officially after touring with them on their previous tour.
The Foo recorded this album in Grohl’s garage on all-analog equipment to capture the sound that is true “Foo.”
This album started right where they left off on their “Greatest Hits,” with producer Butch Vig, who produced the two new songs included
on the compilation project.
Grohl and the Foo deliver a powerful vocal performance and the music is top notch. “Arlandria” shows how graceful the band is at transitioning between soft vocals during the verse and rocking the chorus with solid melodies. This one feels very reminiscent of Grohl’s Nirvana days.
“Rope,” which the Foo performed on SNL, also gives you a strong sense of the energy the band was able to capture in Grohl’s garage. Great guitar riffs and melodies that are just as catchy as anything you’ve loved before from The Foo.
“These Days” is deceivingly mellow at first and then kicks in with a great bridge and a hard chorus. Grohl’s vocals convey the pain of the
lyrics effortlessly; “One of these days I bet your heart’ll be broken…”
With “Wasting Light,” the Foo Fighters have created another classic and most likely will see another nomination for Best Rock Album to keep
them 7-0 on nominations and hopefully propel them to a 4-3 win record.
They are touring heavily, happy to still be here after more than 15 years, which they talk about in their movie “Back and Forth,” hopefully
coming to a theater near us soon.

Three names will be drawn on Friday, April 22 at 1 p.m.
Winners will be announced on Facebook and in the April 27 edition. The winners will also be notified via e-mail.
The CD will be available to pick up in the Campus Center, room 102, Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Rules and regulations(some of that legal…ish stuff):
All winners must be able to present a current student ID.
The Broadside employees are not eligible to enter. Prizes will only be available for 14 days after notification. Failure to pick
up the prize is a voluntary forfeiture.
Students can only win once per term. This is a giveaway, not a contest.
