Discounted passes at hoodoo ski area

Central Oregon has a growing reputation for having exceptional skiing and winter activities, but the fame of Mt. Bachelor can easily overshadow other local options.

Skiers and snowboarders have several other mountain options near Bend. One of which, is Hoodoo Ski Resort. Night ski passes at Hoodoo cost $22 for adults, with exceptions to peak price times, which includes holidays and some weekends. Passes are then raised to $25, which is about half the price of Mt. Bachelor’s most inexpensive option: the $42 Afternoon Sunrise Express Ticket. This ticket allows riders to use only the Sunrise Express lift from noon to 4:00 pm, Saturdays excluded.

Hoodoo’s night ski passes are available on Fridays and Saturdays only. The pass is available from 3:30pm to 9:00pm.

Phoebe Weedman, Hoodoo Ski technician and Central Oregon Community College student, explained that for her, “[Hoodoo] is so fun and so great, it’s a cooler, smaller Mountain.”

Weedman added that a college student might want to hit the slopes at Hoodoo because Hoodoo has a bar and an arcade at the lodge, in addition to a “laidback atmosphere.”

Hoodoo is 45 miles from Bend, which is roughly twice the distance than it is to Mt. Bachelor, which is 22 miles from COCC.

Casual riders can benefit from Hoodoo’s inexpensive nature too, as gear rental packages start at $20. Totalling the costs of both mountains least costly options, with rentals included, Mt. Bachelor costs $85 (no locker), and Hoodoo Ski park at $42.50 (with locker).
