COCC Computer Labs Remain Open

Amber Reed/The Broadside

Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, COCC has transitioned to online classes. While students are doing their best to adjust to an online campus, it can be difficult to make the necessary changes in order to be successful in all courses this term.

Fortunately, COCC is making it possible for students to access BlackBoard accounts, participate in Zoom lectures and video conference calls by keeping the computer labs open.

Campus computer labs are going to remain open for student use in Bend, Redmond, Madras and Prineville. However, changes still had to be made in order to accommodate for the COVID-19 virus. In efforts to keep everybody as safe and healthy as possible while still allowing labs to remain open, hours have changed and the number of students that will be allowed in at any given time will be limited. Staff will also be doing their best to keep a sanitary work environment by taking extra cleaning measures.

These rules are slightly different depending on location, but the main goal remains the same. If possible, students should consider calling the lab that they are closest to ahead of time to see if there are available computers.

The Bend campus will be keeping Pioneer Hall, room 200, open Monday through Thursday beginning at 8 am and ending at 6 pm. On Friday, they will be open at 8 am and close at 4 pm.

On the Redmond campus, the drop-in computer lab in room 324 will remain open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.

At the Prineville campus, the computer lab will be open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.

The Madras campus is set to be open Monday through Friday 8 am to 6pm until April 28.

While computer labs will remain open, libraries at all campuses are closed. Unfortunately, this means that laptops are currently unavailable for students to rent. However, students are always welcome to bring their own laptop or device if there are not enough computers available in the lab. In addition to the library being closed, the tutoring centers are closed. However, there is an online alternative for students who need extra help with classes. Students can access e-tutoring through the COCC website to get help with subjects like Spanish, math, writing, Microsoft Office and more.
