The Portland State University Vikings, other than the ol’ “sun in the eyes” excuse couldn’t blame the weather for the decisive loss to
Central Oregon Community College’s Bobcats Saturday, Oct. 22. The match started with neither club looking like they were ready to play a mid-afternoon game with both sluggishly pushing the pace but it was the Bobcats that started settling into the flow of the game first.

Bobcats’ mid-forward, #8 ripped off the games first goal in minute 23 with a 45-foot shot. After that, the Vikings could never recover.
They did manage to score their only goal after a close penalty call in the box and tied the game.

PSU forward, Ali Barani (#12), shot the penalty kick in minute 30. After that the Bobcats’ defenders put the clamps down and held PSU to limited shots. Going into half-time, the Bobcats were getting stronger in their pursuit and finished the half with seven shots on goal.

After the half, it was much more of the same aggressiveness from our Bobcats. Their forwards kept pushing and their defense kept
stealing the Vikings’ momentum and passing the ball forward. In minute 65, Mizael Ramirez (#8) blasted another shot that ripped off
the back of the net for his second goal of the game, making it 2-1 with only 25 minutes left. It wasn’t long before the Bobcats placed the dagger in; seven seconds into minute 72, Henry Medrano (#7) made a strong move that lead to the final insurance goal.

Up 3-1, the Bobcats clamped down again and PSU had only four shots on goal the rest of the game. The Vikings started to show their
frustration around the minute 85 with the hawkish D and pace the Bobcats were playing with and they started getting chippy by pushing and running into the Bobcats players to the point where the refs had to stop the game and talk to both teams. It was an empty strategy employed by PSU and didn’t matter with time expiring, the Bobcats held up the win emphatically.
