The Broadside also spoke with Tracy Dula, the Career Services Coordinator of CAP Services at COCC. Dula stated that the key to effective job seeking is always keeping in mind that you need to meet the employer’s need since employers want to know how the job seeker will be a benefit to their business. It is important to modify each resume and cover letter for each separate job application to demonstrate this in order to connect with the employer.

In a COVID-19 setting and beyond, Dula stated that professionalism plays an instrumental role in one’s job search. “This includes all documents, the way one dresses, email and phone etiquette, including email address and voice messages and all correspondences. Think like a recruiter. During COVID-19, a job seeker may want to ask about safety protocols,” she said.

The Career Services Coordinator located in CAP Services provides completely free job search assistance to COCC students and alumni, which includes feedback on resume/cover letter development, interviewing practice and learning how to market oneself. The Career Services Coordinator can be reached at 541-383-7200 to schedule an appointment and to get your career started today.
