Social distancing is extremely important to keep everyone safe and healthy. It is also important practice social distancing in order to maintain the good work that health care workers have been doing these past few months to keep everyone as healthy as possible during these uncertain times.

For many people, outdoor activity is a popular draw of the Oregon culture. Taking walks while still being able to keep a 6-foot distance from others and spending time soaking up the sunshine is a great way to take a break from studying or from a Zoom class meeting.

However, with the stress of midterms and summer break drawing closer, students may be wanting a more long-term change of scenery. Luckily, a few local camping sites have announced that they will be opening in the middle of May.

Whether it’s a weekend getaway or a week off this summer, a few options are available. East Lake, South Twins and Lake Waldo are the sites that have decided to open for the season.

There are safe ways to spend some time away from home at any of the locations that will be opening for public use this month.

East Lake will be open on May 21, and as mentioned on the East Lake Resort website, “the maximum capacity for each campsite will be two tents and four people. Gatherings of multiple groups in one campsite will be discouraged.”

When it comes to the East Lake Resort Restaurant, decisions are still to be announced. The East Lake Resort website states, “It will possibly not be opened until mid-June and then will be take out only until COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. The season will go from May 21 to Sep. 27, allowing plenty of time to pick a day to go out and enjoy the fresh air.”

The South Twins will also be open this season from May 8 through Oct., and the Wickiup Reservoir will have some campsites available as well.

There are plenty of options available to get out of the house while still staying safe. Consider spending a few days outdoors. After all, a great cure for the quarantine blues is a day by the lake.
