As universities throughout the country continue their effort to offer a wide range of opportunities for students to appreciate multicultural difference, Central Oregon Community College is no exception. The Broadside wants to  cover all aspects of the college, so the publication is starting a beat-system where reporters will meet with various departments to give them exposure. The Broadside will be able to give insight of their culture and how they choreograph many of the decisions concerning the details of each term.

According to Associate Professor of Writing and Chair of Humanities Dr. Annemarie Hamlin, “COCC and our department is doing an amazing job offering an array of diverse courses that encourage full engagement.”

However, she has a few questions and concerns: Are students willing to expose themselves to courses involving gender empathy? How can we encourage students of color to enroll in ethnic classes? Finally, are our students aware of the diverse ideals that the department offers giving them a complete picture of America’s culture and history?

Here is a list of offerings for the Spring Term:

  • HUM 256: Afro-American Literature (Prof. Annmarie Hamlin)  T/Th 3:15 p.m. – 5:05 Bend Campus
  • ENG 254: Survey of American Literature (Prof. Malinda Williams)  M/W Redmond Campus
  • ENG 260: Introduction to Women Writers (Prof. Stacey Donohue) M/W  Bend Campus
  • FA 257: Literature in Film (Prof. Chris Rubio) T/Th 10:15 a.m. – 12:05 Redmond Campus
  • HUM 299: Combat Narratives (Prof. Jacob Agatucci) T/Th 12:45 p.m. – 2:35 Bend Campus
