The Asian Club has begun to meet. If anyone has any interest in Asian culture they are welcome to attend a meeting.

The club, advised by David Liu, a Central Oregon Community College Math Instructor, meets every two weeks in the Multicultural room, located in the Coats Campus Center, room 217; however, some meetings are held at restaurants. Meetings usually consist of participating in Asian customs from various countries in Asia.

“The Club’s focus is to provide a place for Asian and non-Asian students to get together, support each other and socialize. We usually meet twice a month. The first meeting is on a Thursday and the second meeting is on a Friday,” Liu explained.

With the first meeting already in the books, the Asian club is preparing to help out in the upcoming Central Oregon Community College event, The Asian Pacific-Islander Culture Festival. The event focuses on customs from the Asian Pacific-Islander community of Bend. The festival will be held on May 7, 2016, in the Coats Campus Center, from 14 p.m.

In addition, a Chinese dumpling-making party is also being planned for the near future. An exact date is has yet to be determined.

If you are curious about Asian customs, you are welcome to attend a meeting. Students of all cultural background are welcome to participate.

“Club members have the opportunity to get to know other students, Asian cultures/customs, and participate in activities related to multiple Asian Cultures and customs,” David Liu mentioned. ”New members are very welcome, if you’re interested in Asian club, or the Asian community here in Bend, please attend a meeting.”

If you would like to attend a meeting please contact David Liu, either by email ([email protected]) or by stopping by his office in the Grandview Hall, room 223.
