COCC Public Safety responds to crash near campus

COCC Campus Public Safety
Press release:

On April 21st, 2014, at approximately 1131 hours, Bend Police Corporal Troy Wiles was notified of a motor vehicle crash at 2519 NW Locke Court. Corporal Wiles was conducting traffic enforcement in the same area and responded to the report.

Corporal Wiles found a 2003 Ford Windstar van had crashed into a residence at the location. Corporal Wiles found the male driver, Terry Howard, unconscious and not breathing. Corporal Wiles pulled Howard from the vehicle and began CPR. Terry Howard was the only occupant in the vehicle.

COCC Campus Public Safety Officer Kevin Lanier arrived at the scene to assist Corporal Wiles. Officer Lanier and Corporal Wiles continued life-saving efforts until the Bend Fire Department arrived on scene. Terry Howard was subsequently transported to St. Charles Medical Center. Howard was able to breathe on his own prior to transport.

There were two people in the house at the time of the crash. They were not injured. There were no other vehicles involved.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Initial findings indicate Terry Howard was travelling Westbound on NW Regency Street when he failed to stop at the stop sign at NW Mt. Washington Drive. He struck a stop sign pole with his vehicle before continuing across Mt. Washington Drive and into the residence at 2519 NW Locke Court.
