Students who love music will enjoy the up and coming concert featuring “The Central Oregon Brass Collective,”  a consortium of brass instrument chamber groups centered around a large brass choir.  The 100 years of combined experience and talents of all ages will combine for a first-time performance.
Bend resident Dan Flagg has been a professional symphony orchestra trombonist for over 35 years. Flagg has performed with Anne Murray, Arlo Guthrie, The Manhattan Transfer, Frankie Valle and others. Besides regular performances at the Philharmonic he played and recorded with Frank Sinatra, The Rolling Stones and the Beatles St Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Since moving to Bend four years ago, Flagg has become an active member of the local community. Flagg’s  latest project is the formation of the collective, a combination of local brass players, retired teachers and students from Central Oregon Community College.
“I want to create the opportunity for local brass players to learn and perform large scale brass works.” said Flagg.
One of the trombone performers Max Burns studies here at COCC, majoring in music.
“I love it, and college is about pursuing a passion so I am,” said Burns.
The mix of new and seasoned players makes the collective unique.
“My father owned a trumpet and gave it to me to learn to play when I was nine years old. I’ve been playing now for over 50 years. I have been teaching for over 20 years in Southern California and here in Bend,” said Ken Steiger, a trumpet player in the collective.
The Central Oregon Brass Collective will be performing works by French Composer Dukas whose best known work is the orchestral piece “the Sorcerer’s Apprentice; Gabrielli, an Italian Baroque composer and virtuoso cello player; Raymond Premru ,an American Bass Trombonist; and some romantic works of Gottsdalk.
Their first performance will be at COCC on February 10, 2012 at Pinckney Center for the Arts at 7:30 pm with a special guests performing “The Cascade Brass Quintet.”
