COCC bookstore low on Oregon State Beaver gear

Recently at Central Oregon Community College’s bookstore, a Beavers fan and COCC student, Macy Young expressed concern over the lack of Oregon State University merchandise.

“I don’t understand why there’s University of Oregon stuff in there,” says Young. “I can’t stand the Ducks. Plus, this is an Oregon State campus, we’re not a University of Oregon campus.”

Well, Beaver fans can rest assured that this is not the work of a sinister Duck fan seeking to decry the Beavers. It’s just that the Beaver merchandise is all sold out.

Julie Dumas, who runs merchandising in the COCC bookstore said the bookstore consistently orders Oregon State merchandise every week but that the bookstore also wants to appeal to those students who are involved with the University of Oregon’s program at OSU-Cascades.

“We got a lot of requests for Duck merchandise from those students involved with the program,” says Dumas, who added that new Oregon State merchandise is on its way.

All manner of school supplies can be found at the COCC bookstore which is directly adjacent to the OSU-Cascades building. Along with the textbooks that every student needs to get through their education,
there are pencils, binders, laptop covers and even coffee mugs for sale that either feature the yellow “O” of the Ducks, or the “Beaver Head” or the orange “OS” logo of the Oregon State Beavers.

This may be another chapter to be written in one of the oldest rivalries in college football history. We can be rest assured that the COCC bookstore will be ready for Nov. 26, 2011, when the Beavers and the Ducks will collide in the 115th annual Civil War Game.
