Construction

Winter term students and staff travelling to class on foot will have to avoid Loop Road due to construction closures for the new Health Careers building. New stairs were built directly across the campus center making the buildings off the quad accessible. The road between Newberry Hall, which houses the bookstore, OSU-Cascades and the sidewalk in front of the bookstore are open. Parking will be affected in front of the bookstore. To accommodate the closed parking spaces, a new parking lot was constructed on the north side of Barber Library. Construction on the Health Careers building will continue for the next 18 months.

Payroll

Rob Walker, boyfriend of Associated Students of Central Oregon Community College’s marketing and advertising coordinator Brenda Pierce was paid as an honorary member of ASCOCC though admission records show that Walker was not a student of COCC for the fall of 2010.
According to documents requested on Oct. 20, 2010, Walker was paid $1,466.25 on Sept. 14, $60 on September 16 and 1,366.50 on Oct.15 of that same year.
In August, Walker is on the ASCOCC payroll for 1,287.50 but he is listed as a student in the summer. Documents have been requested as to amounts paid to Walker for November and December of 2010.According to Taran Underdal, ASCOCC’s advisor, honorary members do not have to be students of COCC.
Walker made over $19,000 in the 2009-2010 year as a private contractor and honorary ASCOCC member.

COCC receives grant for Oregon Leadership Institute

The Latino Partnership Project Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation awarded a $12,500 grant to the Central Oregon Community College Foundation to support The Oregon Leadership Institute.
OLI encourages “ Latino youth to stay in school and graduate, to pursue higher education, and ultimately, to obtain a rewarding career and contribute to their communities” according to their COCC website.
