Central Oregon Community College is seeing a siege of construction, some of which is expected to be finished this year. One of the first sites of construction to reach completion is a remodel inside the Pence/Pickney building where the Cascades Chorale, a community chorus, finds a home.

“Half a million was allocated this building,” said James Knox, the director of Cascades Chorale, “It [the rehearsal hall] gives the choir it’s own room, its own space.”

The remodel not only includes “great acoustics,” said Knox, but also provides the Choir with a new recording studio.

Knox has been director of the Choir since 2004 and is their 6th season. Knox not only directs the Cascades Choral, he also directs a children’s choir which will perform for the first time this December.

Rehearsals begin Sept. 29 with a performance, the 6th Annual Holiday Magic Concert on Dec. 10-12. The Holiday Magic Concert will benefit CORIL, which provides services to people with disabilities.

“It also has a great view of the Cascades,” said Knox about the rehearsal hall, pointing to the open balcony that frames the Cascade skyline.
