Dustin Moore, an honorary member of the student government, has been appointed projects coordinator for the Associated Students of Central Oregon Community College.
ASCOCC is currently composed of six coordinators and one advisor. They represent and serve the student body by providing governance, advocacy, services, club funding, and programs for COCC.

Moore has been an honorary student government member for the past year at COCC, and has “done a great job so far,” said Brenda Pierce, ASCOCC’s marketing coordinator.
As projects coordinator, Moore will be in charge of starting and managing projects at COCC. Moore recently finished ASCOCC’s Souls 4 Soles, a shoe drive project, and is currently working on Caring for Troops, a project supporting Central Oregon soldiers.

The appointment of a new projects coordinator filled the month-long vacancy in the student government office. The projects coordinator position was left open after the resignation of COCC student Joshua Budish on April 23.

“Hopefully we will see some great projects from him (Moore),” Pierce said. “He’s very motivated and really jumps in with both feet.”

The other applicant for the position was COCC student and honorary student government member Carl Rockwell.
Pierce said Rockwell turned out not to be qualified for the position.

Coordinators are appointed by a majority vote of the current council members. According to the ASCOCC constitution, council members will advertise an open position for a minimum of one week and they will fill the position within 30 days.

Moore filled the position on Monday. He will continue as projects coordinator until the new school year begins.

In addition to being the new projects coordinator, Moore is a business owner. His business focuses on buying cars, refurbishing them, and selling them on the internet.
Moore is also a COCC student and a member of the Aviation Club. He appeared on the 2009 Fall Term Dean’s list.

Future COCC projects he is focusing on include “some nutritional-fitness stuff” and some environmental projects, said Moore.

“I’m always open to input,” Moore said. “My goal is to get things accomplished.”
