Music Review: Believe it or not, The Barenaked Ladies are still making albums

In 1988, the original members of The Barenaked Ladies were simply some nice, young, Canadian musicians that thought it would be fun to record a couple of tunes together.  Now, they are one of the biggest names in the history of indie rock, selling out the largest venues in the world for thousands and thousands of fans.  In twenty-two years, they have thrived and created their own niche in a genre that many bands struggle just surviving in.

In their ninth full-length studio album, All In Good Time, The Barenaked Ladies have once again proven their talent and poise creating 14 tracks that exemplify the old and new aspects of the band.

With the recent departure of founding member Steven Page, the band had to overcome the adversity of once again producing an album that sports their very unique sound without one of their original frontmen.  The band, now consisting of Jim Creeggan, Kevin Hearn, Ed Robertson, and Tyler Stewart spent a solid two months recording at both Canterbury Studios in Toronto as well as Jim Creeggan’s home.

All In Good Time sends a message of band unity with a musical tone that matches all their previous work with a few new twists.  Tracks like “Summertime” and “Another Heartbreak” shed a new, slightly poppy sound to the band’s lineup.  The Barenaked Ladies have not strayed from their original party roots though, pumping out great vintage sounding tracks like “Four Seconds” and “The Love We’re In”.

Although The Barenaked Ladies may have lost another staple member of their crew, they have hit the nail on the head with their comeback album All In Good Time.  Released on April 14, 2010 it has proven that the members of The Barenaked Ladies are not only resilient and determined musicians, but are fully capable of entertaining fans with timeless hits for years to come.
