So You Want to Advertise in the Broadside? Here’s what You Need to know

Posted on 10 January 2012 by Leon Pantenburg

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press…” First Amendment, Constitution of the United States.

Our Philosophy: Advertisers ultimately finance freedom of the press. For this website to remain a free and independent resource for Central Oregon Community College and the communites and  campuses The Broadside serves,  we must finance the staff payroll, pay production costs and fund overhead.  One way we do this is to accept fees for advertising in the newspaper and on the website.

This leads to a valid question:  Can any story  published in the Broadside or on our website, thebroadsideonline.com, be trusted when there is an advertiser with the potential to call the shots?  The answer is yes.

Here is how it works:

  •  Advertising is only accepted from credible vendors of products and services.
  • Broadside reporters will not write stories promoting products or services, under the guise of “news.”
  • If  you become a paid advertiser on The Broadside, you understand and agree that you have no control over editorial content.

We appreciate you considering advertising with the Broadside. Completely student-operated, the Broadside has been publishing continually since 1953, and providing timely news, sports and feature coverage to students, faculty and community members. Since its inception, the Broadside publications have provided jobs, training and hands-on work  experience to thousands of students.

We appreciate you helping us continue that publishing tradition!
