Joe Viola earns facilities credentials

The nationwide organization for facilities directors, APPA, awarded Central Oregon Community College’s director of campus services, Joe Viola, the CEFP credential. The Certified Educations Facilities Professional (CEFP) tests your level of competency and knowledge in the following areas: General Administration and Management; Operations and Maintenance; Energy, Utilities, and Environmental Stewardship; and Planning Design and Construction.

“[The CEFP] membership is for networking and comparing notes for what the schools do and the different challenges to have,” Viola said.

Viola graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Connecticut and has worked at COCC for six years now.

“We’re proud of Joe for having studied and passed the exam and devoted his time that makes him an even better, more capable employee of the college,” said Matt McCoy, vice president for administration at COOC. “The college believes in investing the people.”

COCC also offers training for other staff at COCC for the CEFP program and has set aside funds for professional development for classified staff, administration and for faculty, according to McCoy.

Viola is one of twelve facility managers from community colleges throughout the country

who have achieved the CEFP award.
